Our Capital Campaign

Dear Friend
The Fulton County YMCA has launched an exciting campaign to combine the operations of its existing two branches into one central location. The proposed site for this magnificent new facility is the Gates Building located on Harrison Street Extension.

Fulton County YMCAThis 13.5 acre facility will permit us to expand and enhance our program offerings in virtually every area, some of which include:

  • Day Care

  • Teen Activities

  • Youth Services and After School Programming

  • Residence (at East Fulton Street)

  • Health Maintenance

  • Aquatics

  • Outdoor Activities

A successful capital campaign will permit us to purchase the property and complete the necessary renovations. Our goal is to raise several million dollars through local giving and available grants. The support of our community has always been important to the success of the Fulton County YMCA. We invite you to continue that support with a generous commitment to the campaign. Executive Summary:

In ten years since 1994 consolidation of Gloversville and Johnstown YMCA's, virtually all key program and financial goals have been achieved.

  • Remaining issue: Two aging physical plants

  • Independent YMCA of the USA study concluded:

"Build a new facility with comprehensive indoor facilities, adequate parking, outdoor activities, a day camp, and space for future expansion . . . combined with quality programs and a talented, committed staff ...(this) will provide Fulton County with its best opportunity for youth,
teens, adults and families ...."

  • The Gates property on Harrison Street meets every criteria for use and central location and is available for purchase.

  • The YMCA is currently the largest provider of Day Care in the county, and has a long waiting list for after-school care.

  • Facilities are the number #1 shortcoming of the Fulton County YMCA. Many have echoed the comment, "Build our new YMCA and we will come."

  • A study by a national fund-raising firm indicated it is feasible to raise adequate private funds for the project.

Please join us...and fulfill this wonderful opportunity.
