Aerobics: Aerobics, Aquarobics

Aerobics - Our goal: To Move! Challenge your body with a variety of fitness styles to keep you interested and having fun. Move by step, physio ball, low/high impact, weights, stretching, floor exercise, and more. Come join the crowd. Everyone works at their own pace. Seven weeks. American Red Cross First Aid & CPR:
An emergency can arise at any moment! Would you know what to do? This program teaches all the basics of First Aid and CPR. Course contents include emergency principles, bleeding, burns, fractures, choking, heart & breathing conditions, and other emergencies. There is no prerequisite or age requirement to enroll.

Basketball: Teen Basketball Summer League, Youth Basketball League, Old Pro Basketball League, Adult Recreational

Teen Basketball Summer League - Competitive program for boys and girls. This activity is co-sponsored by the Fulton County Youth Bureau and is designed to provide competition and skill development in a structured and organized setting. This is an example of two community agencies working together to provide healthy and constructive activities for the youth of our area. This program runs weekday evenings during the month of July.

Youth Basketball League - Basketball was invented in the YMCA, and is still one of the most popular activities. This instructional league begins in November for youth grades K6. Practices, games, and strategies are worked on with teams and their respective coaches. Fair play and sportsmanship are stressed, as is in all YMCA programs. The program is in cooperation with the Gloversville Enlarged School District. Team shirts and basketballs will be provided for all participants.
Eleven-week program. Groups are grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-6.
Weekday evenings and Saturdays by age group. Look for information in the fall. Please contact physical department for exact days.

Old Pro Basketball League - The YMCA's popular men's evening basketball league will once again be scheduled on Thursday nights in the YMCA gymnasium. The league is for men 32 years of age and older. Interested players should contact the YMCA as teams will begin developing in the fall.

Adult Recreational - Adult recreational basketball is scheduled on Monday through Friday from 12:00 to 2:00 PM. Recreational basketball may also be played evenings when open gym or adult gym is scheduled.
Members participate free. Day pass for non-members is $8.50.

Cardio Kickboxing:
A dynamic combination of aerobics, kickboxing. martial arts, and stretching designed for a challenging workout. This co-ed fitness program will get your Mood pumping and the calories burning. Easily adaptable for all ability levels. Make fitness a part Of your life. Program runs in seven-week sessions

Cheerleading:
GO TEAM GO. Learn some of the basic fundamentals of cheerleading cheers, routines, cartwheels, and more. Program is designed for youngsters in grades three and up. Seven-week program. Dates and times will be announced by physical department.

Company of the Month:
Research has shown that a healthy workforce can reduce employee absenteeism. The YMCA offers the Company of the Month program to any business in the Fulton County area. Periodically, the YMCA designates a business as the Company of the Month. When your company receives this designation, all employees are entitled to use the YMCA's facilities at NO CHARGE for the entire one month period. At the conclusion of the one month period the YMCA shall offer the business a group rate based upon the number of employees interested in signing up for membership in the YMCA. Ask someone in the management office of your business to contact the YMCA regarding this program.

Floor Hockey:
Youth floor hockey will begin in March for boys and girls ages 7-12. Team play and stick handling skills are emphasized. This is an excellent introductory program to field hockey skills. Seven-week program.

Fun Run (Spring):
Start running today to get in shape for the YMCA's Annual Spring Fun Run sponsored by and assisted by the Fulmont Road Runners Club. This 5K race will be held on April 8 , 2006. Male and female divisions and age groups. Members of the Fulmont Road Runners Club receive a discount. First 75 runners receive a "Fun Run" T-shirt.

The YMCA progressive gymnastics program will emphasize basic floor and apparatus skills. Program will also build strength, flexibility, and coordination. Seven-week program.

Gym & Swim:
The Gym & Swim program is for children ages 1 %2 years to four. Class involves many skills such as, throwing, catching, balancing activities, large and small motor development, games, songs, and more. Social interaction is emphasized as parents are encouraged to participate with children. Seven-week program. Tuesday & Thursday (pool 8:45AM; gym 9:30AM)

Individual Fitness Evaluation:
The YMCA will be offering fitness evaluations to all interested members. The program will evaluate cardio-respiratory fitness, body composition, flexibility, muscular strength, and endurance. This will be a useful tool for members who wish to start and maintain a program.

Karate:  Karate, Youth Karate

Karate - Discipline, respect, self-esteem, and fitness are some of the many positive things you will experience by participating in our Karate program. Black Belt Instructor Mark Kilmer coordinates this popular YMCA program. Seven-week sessions continue throughout the year.

Youth Karate - A comprehensive course in traditional and modern Karate is instructed by Mark Kilmer, who possesses a Black Belt in Karate. This program emphasizes discipline, self defense, and fitness.

Personalized Fitness Instruction:
The YMCA features complete CYBEX exercise equipment. Instruction in the proper use of this equipment is recommended for your safety and benefit. The Y has a trained staff that will assist you in designing a program that will meet your needs. Contact a member of the YMCA program staff for additional information.

Racquetball:
The YMCA's four-wall racquetball courts are the finest in the area. Racquetball, squash, or handball may be played on the courts. A $6.00 per hour court reservation fee is charged for a member reserving a court. A non-member must pay a court usuage fee of $3.00 per half hour and a day pass according to their age. All players must be either a member or purchase a day pass. Advanced reservations are recommended. Eye protection is required.

To help prevent serious injury, shock resistant protective eyewear is required for all participants, regardless of age, during racquetball and handball activities. Court fees apply to all non-members and anyone reserving court time. Under 16 years needs an adult with them in the courts.

Skippers - Skippers is an infant swim class for children beginning at six months of age. These classes offer an aquatic experience and introduction to the water with basic skills included. For parents, it offers the opportunity to play with their children in a new environment - the water! Seven-week sessions. The Member rate is available if either the parent or the child is a member.

Lessons - Swimming is an activity that every youngster should learn. The YMCA is the nation's leader in swim instruction. Instructional swim classes for youth ages 3 and up. Classes are held during the week and on Saturdays. This program is offered exclusively to members only at no additional fee. Pre-registration is required. Group classifications are as follows:

Polliwog-Beginners (based on age)
Guppy-Advanced beginners and those who have completed Polliwog
Minnow-Advanced beginner to intermediate (instructor's discretion) and those who have completed Guppy
Fish-Intermediate to Swimmer level & those who have completed Minnow

Flying Fish-Swimmer level, and those who have completed Fish
Shark-Advanced swimmers, and those who has completed Flying Fish
Porpoise-Advanced swimmers, participant volunteer work is required

Family Swim - Monday-Thursday 7:00-8:00PM, Friday 6:30-8:OOPM, Saturday & Sunday 1:003:00PM. Day Pass Fees: $2.50 per person (swim only). Parent or guardian must be on the premises. Maximum family price is $6.00.

Lasers Swim Team - The Gloversville Branch YMCA's youth age group swim team is known as the "Lasers" and will once again assemble a team this year. The team competes in the Central Valley Swim League, as well as against many top USS Swim & Y teams throughout the northeast. Tryouts will be held in the fall. This program is offered exclusively to Fulton County YMCA Members only. Information on practices, team fees, etc. will be announced and will also be available at try-outs.

Annual Learn to Swim - Each year the YMCA offers a FREE learn-to-swim program to non-members. This program teaches the basic swim techniques. it is a one-week program conducted by the YMCA aquatic staff and is open to any youngster over five years of age. Lessons include instruction on learning to float, glide, proper arm and leg movements, water saftey, and more. Space i limited.
April 14-18

Backyard Swimming - The backyard swimming program brings YMCA professional instruction into your home pool. The YMCA recognizes that homeowners with outdoor pools like to spend time at home outdoors during the nicer weather, so we will send a well-qualified instructor i.i`0.11t to your own backyard. Eight classes are held for two-week sessions. Hours ai-e arranged at the convenience of the pool owner. The group size may range from 6-10 swimmers depending upon ability. The program can be conducted in above ground or in-ground pools. For more information contact the YMCA Aquatics Director.

Masters Swim Club - Come join the newest club in town! Want a stronger swim workout? Want to get back into competitive swimming? These coached workouts are just what you need. Master Swim will consist of two coached workouts a week. You will have the opportunity to learn about swim meets in your area. Must be 18 yrs or older.

Adult Lap Fitness Swim - Adult lap fitness swims are scheduled throughout the day. Members swim at no additional charge. Daily pass fees for the general public are $10.00.  Special note: due to space limitations with the size of our pool, please exercise courtesy while swimming with other persons in the pool.

Lifeguarding - The American Red Cross Lifeguarding program will be sponsored by the YMCA. Any person 15 years of age and older who is proficient in swimming and can pass a pre-class swim test may enroll. Course includes duties and responsibilities of a lifeguard along with lifeguard techniques, spinal injury, and the use of rescue equipment. American Red Cross and Standard First Aid and CPR are included. Upon satisfactory completion of the course, participants will be issued a Lifeguarding certificate which is valid for three years.

Senior Aquafit - A water exercise program that concentrates on developing strength and flexibility. This program is good for the beginner to advanced level participant. The program design allows each person to work at their own pace. This program runs in seven-week sessions.

SCUBA Class - Learn to SCUBA dive from the only YMCA bonafide service provider in the county. Participants must be at least 12 years of age. Upon completion, YMCA certification identifies you as a trained diver allowing you to rent equipment and buy air.

Volleyball, Adult:
Adult co-ed recreation volleyball is played each Friday evening at the YMCA. The program emphasizes fun, recreation, and fitness. Primarily a winter and spring activity. Friday 7:00-9:00 PM
