Swim Lessons
There are three general categories of Y Swim Lessons:
Swim Starters helps children ages six months to three years develop swim readiness skills through fun experiences that build confidence. In addition, parents learn how to supervise children in the water, prevent accidents and plan for emergencies.
Swim Basics enables students of all ages to gain basic water safety and swimming skills. Swimmers become comfortable and confident in the water through practicing safe water habits, engaging in underwater exploration and learning how to swim to safety if they fall into a body of water.
Swim Strokes introduces and refines stroke technique in older swimmers (school-age, teens and adults). Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique, developing skills that can help prevent chronic disease, increase overall well-being and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

Water Fitness & Safety
If you're looking for a new way to exercise, dive into water fitness! Aquatic exercise provides an effective, low-impact alternative to traditional gym workouts. The natural resistance of water challenges your muscles while reducing the strain on your joints, making it ideal for injury prevention, rehabilitation, and overall wellness!
In addition to aqua fitness classes, we also offer water safety and lifeguarding training periodically. If you are interested in learning more about water safety training at the Y, please reach out to our Aquatics Coordinator.

Learn to swim at the Y.
Our swim lessons and classes aren’t just great for exercise; they also build life skills and offer the opportunity for kids and families to bond in a safe environment.
As "America's swim instructor," the YMCA teaches children of all ages and from all backgrounds that water should be fun, not feared, if you know how to stay safe in and around water.
Drowning can happen nearly anywhere with standing water — but as a parent or caregiver, you can’t keep your kids sidelined. By equipping kids with the tools they need to be confident in and around water, they’ll be able to reap the health benefits of exercise, bond with family and friends and take pride in their new skills — safely.
More than 100 years ago, the Y created the concept of group swim lessons and to this day, teaches more than 1 million children invaluable water safety and swimming skills every year. The Y’s size and reach as a vital community asset uniquely positions the organization to bridge the gap in the delivery of swim lessons and water safety education.
Lessons are grouped into three program categories:
Swim Starters [Stages A & B]
Swim starters are accompanied by an adult, infant and toddlers learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness through fun. Parents learn about water safety and drowning prevention and the importance of supervision of young children.
Swim Basis [Stages 1-3]
Students learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency by learning two benchmark skills: Swim, Float, Swim and Jump, Push, Turn, and Grab.
Swim Strokes [Stages 4-6]
Having mastered the fundamentals, students learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique and endurance. This fosters swimming as part of a healthy lifestyle.
